d&b audiotechnik Backstage Hospitality

Brief: To design and create a hospitality area backstage at the d&b audiotechnik Soundscape tent at Womad. This consisted of the main backstage structure, hospitality, bar and outside area.

Who: d&b audiotechnik– Manufacturers of PA speakers and audio systems, with a very talented team of sound engineers.

Where: WOMAD Festival, Malmesbury

When: July 2019

What We Did: Team Tarren were involved in this project from conception through to creation. We designed the space, built it, and managed it- played host to the d&b team and their guests whilst it was live over the festival.

In the design process we made sure that the VIP Area served all of its necessary functions. We incorporated a bar area to serve beverages and refreshments along with indoor and outdoor seating areas for them to be enjoyed. The space was also used to host a private d&b party. We incorporated a networking and meeting space, and branded recording space for d&b to film promotional videos of the weekend for their website and social channels, complete with branded neon light features. In addition to this we created space for them to display their merchandise in the main tent.

Last, but certainly not least, we supplied phone charging points for all guests to keep them topped up, along with a play space for the younger members of the d&b family to enjoy themselves.

Furniture We Used: All of the furniture used in the d&b audiotechnik backstage area was provided from our own hire venture – Event Furniture by Tarren- and was hand-picked to fit the many functions of the project, whilst maintaining a smart and stylish look in-keeping with d&b’s branding and identity.

Pieces used include our Rustic Bar, Chesterfield Sofas, Sleeper Benches, Rustic Round Coffee Tables, Rustic Oak Barrels, Persian Rugs, Rustic Industrial Poseur Tables, Tolix Stools, Bar Fridges, Circular Garden Benches, Bean Bags and Parasols.

Challenges: d&b audiotechnik’s main aim for this project was to create a space at WOMAD where guests would be able to engage with their brand and presence. To meet this aim we built a demo space for them to flaunt and showcase their new products.

One of the main challenges within this project was making the space WOMAD friendly. We wanted to convey the fun elements of d&b audiotechnik’s branding whilst also catering to potential clients and industry professionals who were guests in the space.

As the space was directly behind the d&b Soundcape stage, we also needed to make sure that it was able to deal with a high capacity of people between artists, and this was where people retreated to, in order to refresh and refuel. To do this we ensured that there were lots of open plan areas, and an assortment of seating and perching areas to cope with a large volume of people coming into the tent. The outdoor seating space that we created was also really important in making sure that there was enough room for guests to spread out.

To do this we tried to marry WOMAD’s festival feel with d&b audiotechnik’s Sounscape branding. The bespoke neon lights, highlighting d&b’s tag ‘More art. Less noise’ were a simple touch that made a BIG impact towards this.
